How does acupuncture work to heel, balance and
bring health back to the body?
Acupuncture (Phoenix AZ) helps to bring health, balance and rejuvenation to
the body by unblocking
chi (ch'i or qi) by placing
needles at particular pressure points on the body to balance the
opposing forces of yin
and yang. Chi is an energy
that permeates all things. The Chi or energy flow through the body
along 14 main pathways called meridians. When yin and yang are in
harmony, chi flows freely within the body and a person is healthy.
When a person is sick, diseased, or injured, there is an obstruction
of chi along one of the meridians. Traditional Chinese medicine has
identified some 500 specific points where needles are to be placed
for specific effects.
Acupuncture has been practiced in China for more than 2,000
years.
At Blossom Day Spa & Wellness we offer traditional and a
variation of traditional acupuncture. One of the variations of
traditional acupuncture that we offer is called auriculotherapy or ear
acupuncture. It is a method of
diagnosis and treatment based on the belief that the ear is the map
of the bodily organs. For example, a problem with an organ such as
the liver is to be treated by placing a needle into a certain
pressure point on the ear that is corresponding point for that
organ. Staplepuncture, a variation of auriculotherapy, puts staples
(which are special acupuncture needles) at key points on the ear which helps people stop smoking,
lose weight and controls
appetite.
Does Acupuncture
Hurt?
Most people who have had acupuncture would describe it as virtually
painless or far less painful than plucking out a hair. The
sensations that follow range from nothing at all, to mild tingling,
to slight numbness, to electrical pulsations in areas distant from
the site of insertion. All these sensations usually subside once the
needles are removed. The needles used for acupuncture are much
smaller then the standard hypodermic needle, do not draw blood and
are solid, not hollow.
What is treatment like?
Most patients say that its a very "relaxing experience."
Usually patients leave in less discomfort and are more functional
than when they walked in. Sometimes the effects are too subtle to
perceive, especially in the beginning of treatment. Yet after 5 to
10 treatments the improvements become more and more apparent.
